Antiaging Makeup Tips

Want to look even more gorgeous? Here are some antiaging makeup tips...

  1. Foundation:
  2. Put on your favorite moisturizer first. Of course you're using one with a good sun protection factor (SPF). Use a light textured foundation or tinted moisturizer.
  3. Choose one that is described as ‘illuminating’, or 'light reflective' or similar. Or you can make your own tinted moisturizer by mixing your favorite moisturizer and foundation. You'll easily find the ratio that works for you!
  4. Two parts moisturizer to one part foundation is a good starting place. This works very well as an antiaging makeup.
  5.  Match the shade closely to your natural skintone. Trying it on the hand or wrist is useless. The best place is on the face itself near your jawline.
  6. Dot product on nose, forehead and chin, and blend outwards.

Powder:

  1. Unless your face is particularly shiny or you prefer a matte look, this is the best confined to the nose.
  2. Or at most the t-zone. Regardless of price, over-powdering is not a good antiaging makeup tactic... It seems to emphasize every little line. So only dust a tiny amount over fine lined areas.
  3. Again match it fairly closely to your skintone.

Blusher:

  1. The right shade of blusher immediately subtracts at least ten years!! For antiaging makeup, the best shades are pinks and corals. Or a pinky coral. You'll know when you find the right shade.....your face will just light up!! (And don't think you automatically have to spend a fortune for makeup to be good!! Make up expert believes wonderful products can be found amongst both high and low cost products.)
  2. Smile at yourself in the mirror.....go on ........big smile!! You can't miss the apples of the cheeks!! Dot the blusher in the centre, a little higher than lower, and blend out and up.
  3. If you're using powder apply in circular movements. We're not aiming for a zebra effect! Start with a minimal amount and add gradually. You don't want to look as if you've just escaped from the circus!!
  4. Apply a minimal amount of blush around temples.....make sure it is well blended....almost undetectable!!
  5. Experiment with cream or powder blush to see which you prefer. A cream blush with powder blush applied over the top is long lasting.
  6. Blush is the most important item in an antiaging makeup bag!!

Mascara:

  1. This really is completely different for everyone. There are three main types of mascara: Natural, lengthening and volumizing. The latter is more flattering. However, you may prefer a more natural look.
  2. For antiaging makeup purposes, black can look harsh. Brown/black is very flattering. If you are very fair, brown may be better. Navy is also a more subtle option to black.
  3. Applying mascara to just the top lashes is a good antiaging makeup tactic. It lifts the entire face. Mascara on the bottom lashes, particularly when it is heavily applied, can really drag the face down and emphasize any under-eye circles.
  4. If you have never tried applying mascara to the top lashes only give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised. Also you seem to be able to get away with applying it fairly generously without looking overdone!!

Eyeliner:

  1. A flattering look is a grey or brown pencil or powder applied very close to the top lashes, then gently smudged.
  2.  If you like a line under the bottom lashes, try a lighter shade, and try just lining the outer third.

Eyebrows:

  1. Neaten by tweezing out stray hairs from underneath. It is flattering to fill in spaces in the brow itself with a pencil or powder LIGHTER than your brow color.
  2. This still gives good definition and you will avoid a Groucho Marx appearance!! Then brush the brows upwards and apply a little Vaseline to keep them in place.

Lipstick:

  1. Again, you will know the right shade immediately; it should 'light up your face'. Go with what you know suits you rather than the latest trends.
  2. Pinks with a touch of mauve can be for good for antiaging makeup. Matte or over-shiny or sparkly lipsticks can be unflattering. A finish between the two is often 'just right'.
  3. To prevent lipstick 'bleeding', line your lips with a long lasting lipliner (there are plenty of these on the market!). If you want longer lasting lipstick fill in the entire lip area with your liner before applying your lipstick.
  4. Try and get a lipstick with sun protection. This will keep your lips young and plumper for longer!!
  5.  If your lipstick looks too matte apply a little Vaseline to the centre of your bottom lip.

Eyeshadow:

  1. For antiaging makeup it is best to avoid bright and shiny colors. A subtle shade applied to the lid can be very flattering.
  2. Sweep it up a little at the outer corners, subtly.

Shimmer and Highlighter:

  1. These products can easily look overdone. If you want to use it, try applying it to tops of cheek bones and onto brow bones only.
  2. Vaseline can be wonderful, patted on very minimally, for this purpose. It can be very effective patted in to fine lines around the eye area and then blotted.
  3. Sometimes photographers dab a little Vaseline under the eyes of mature models to give a more youthful look in photographs.
  4. Hey, you're done and you look fabulous!!
  5.  However, makeup is a very individual thing....you know what is right for you. If it looks good, no matter what advice you may have heard, then go for it!
  6. After all, it's meant to be fun!!

Very helpful. I was wearing a lot of makeup thinking it was making me look younger, but noticed as the day went on the makeup would thin and I would look younger or even younger after I washed my face. With so much eye shadow I looked garish.
